WorkSafeBC investigating fourth Metro Vancouver crane incident of 2024

WorkSafeBC has met with employers and the local crane operator union following a tower crane incident that occurred on Monday, March 4; marking the fourth of these incidents to occur in the Metro Vancouver Area this year.


B.C. government pushing forward on crane safety changes following repeated incidents

The Government of B.C. announced that changes to tower crane safety training requirements are in the works following a series of crane-related accidents over the past two months. Labour Minister Harry Bains stated that these incidents have led the government, WorkSafeBC and B.C. Crane Safety to fast-track changes to crane safety regulations in development since last year.


Quebec reports increase in women construction workers

Quebec has reported a total of 7,470 women workers across its construction industry, with the number rising by 250 over 2023. Despite this positive increase, this figure represents only 3.8 per cent of the industry’s total workforce across the province, sitting slightly below the national average of 3.9 per cent.


Mammoet uses battery-powered technology for sustainable skidding operation

Mammoet has brought sustainable skidding solutions to a recent project with Belgium’s Stadsbader Contractors; lifting and skidding an 850-tonne concrete tunnel section with zero emissions. Mammoet’s engineers combined existing skidding equipment with battery-powered technology to carry out operations 40 metres underneath railway lines near Brussels.
