AT&T completes 400GbE field trial between NYC and D.C.

AT&T said today it has successfully completed the first of a multi-phase trial testing 400 gigabit Ethernet data speeds, adding that it brings it one step closer to quadrupling network speeds for businesses.

Alliance heralds ‘next Ethernet era’ at OFC 2017

The Ethernet Alliance is holding interoperability demonstrations at OFC 2017 it says emphasize the full spectrum of Ethernet speeds from 1 Gigabit (1G) to 400 Gigabit (400G) and features a live 400G demo interconnecting to four discrete member booths.

Transition Networks debuts Ethernet Over 2-Wire Extender with PoE+

Transition Networks, Inc., a provider of data network integration offerings today expanded its family of Ethernet extenders by introducing the Ethernet Over 2-Wire Extender With PoE+ which extends networks at near Gigabit speeds and provides power to security cameras, wireless access points, and other IP devices at distances beyond the typical 100m Ethernet cable limitation.

HellermannTyton’s Sling Strap securely hangs cable

HellermannTyton has announced the Dual Arrowhead Sling Strap, an eight-inch nylon strap resembling a cable tie with arrowhead fasteners on each end designed for insertion into dual quarter-inch holes in the work surface. The result is a loop that securely hangs cable, wire and conduit without a binding force.
“This product was originally developed as a solar PV application – for suspending cable beneath solar panels – and we realized other applications could benefit,” said HellermannTyton product manager Missy DeBord. “When installing long runs of cable, installers typically trim the tail off hundreds or thousands of cable ties. Sling Strap eliminates cutting, saving time and freeing crews of having to hold onto a tool.”
According to DeBord, the Dual Arrowhead Sling Strap also streamlines maintenance. “If a cable needs to be replaced, it can be quickly removed and a new one inserted without cutting and replacing ties.”
Sling Strap has a 50-pound extraction force rating and is made of Polyamide 12 (PA12), a material known for resistance to UV, chemical and moisture exposure.

Belden says new connector an alternative to mechanical splice

Belden Inc. recently launched its FiberExpress (FX) Fusion Splice-On Connector, which it says is as an alternative to mechanical splice options.
Because the field-installable FX Fusion Splice-On Connector precisely aligns fibers with an automated alignment process, it provides better performance than a mechanical splice, with maximum insertion loss of 0.20 dB as compared to 0.50 dB (OM4). Automated splicing tools provide consistent, reliable and high-quality terminations.
Installation speed, accuracy and performance are also improved, with no crimping, polishing or adhesives required for termination. Fewer splice management accessories are also required during installation – the FX Fusion Splice-On Connector eliminates the need for splice enclosures and splice trays. The fiber ferrule is ready for termination, with a pre-cleaved and pre-cleaned fiber stub. The connector also allows exact channel lengths to be run, eliminating cable shorts and excess slack.
It can be used with nearly all fusion splicers, and in indoor and outdoor applications, meeting both ANSI/TIA-568-D3 and GR-326/1081 requirements (as of summer 2017). LC 900um connectors are now available in OM1, OM3/4, OM4, OS2 or OS2 APC versions. Standard and precision installation toolkits are also available, along with standard and precision cleavers and universal splice holders.
