CommScope

CommScope launches augmented reality offering

CommScope recently demonstrated augmented reality (AR) capabilities with its imVision automated infrastructure management offering, which will allow IT personnel to physically “see” what’s going on in their local area networks.
The software-based imVision currently enables IT managers to monitor and control a network infrastructure.
Located in a data centre or IT closet, it can remotely show where ports are located and how they are connected back to the main location.
“What started as an application for gamers and entertainment has now entered the business world and organizations are beginning to see the value that AR can bring to various industries,” said Ernie Pickens, senior vice president of enterprise solutions at CommScope. “Coupling AR with intelligent infrastructure to ‘see’ cables and connections behind walls and in ceilings is just the first of many uses where we believe customers will find value.”
As part of the assessment, CommScope collaborated with Joinpad to develop several functional AR prototypes based on use cases that are typically performed during cabling administration tasks.
The tasks covered implementation of moves/adds/changes, troubleshooting cabling connectivity, and maintenance work on cabling infrastructure in the ceiling.

HellermannTyton introduces new line of FTTx enclosures

HellermannTyton recently announced a line of fiber distribution enclosures developed for installers to connect cables from the street level fiber backbone to individual residences and businesses, including options used throughout the building and directly to the desk or access point.
The outdoor Fiber Façade enclosure accommodates up to eight fiber drops to the home, apartment or small office building. The customer connection point transitions fiber drop cables into the building’s network, accommodating both splice and patch for single-subscriber connections.
The UV-protected and sealed outdoor systems provide an easy and reliable solution to connect outdoor fiber cabling and transition them into a building, the company said in a release.
Meanwhile, the Fiber Distribution enclosure serves as both a building entry point or as a floor distributor. Its hinged splice tray supports up to 18 fusion splices to splice and route fibers within the building. Additionally, a splice and patch version accommodates options to deploy with pluggable connectivity.
“Deploying fibers up to and throughout the building is an evolutionary step in satisfying increasing consumer demand for data,” said HellermannTyton product manager David Rifkin.
