Holiday Cheer!

Sexton Group donates to a wide range of charities throughout the year. As many families are in need over the holidays, our office divides into two groups and takes on the challenge of shopping for toys and food.

This year, we collected two cars full of much needed food for local families, including baby food and baby supplies. There was also another vehicle full of toys and games for children of all ages.

Both groups took their vehicles full of items to the Christmas Cheer Board; we were all greeted with kindness, and smiles by volunteers.

In addition to the Christmas Cheer board donation, we were Santa's little elves this year for one family in particular, delivering some Christmas Cheer to a family of three in need. A single mother with her two daughter ages two and five received a Christmas hamper filled with an assortment of perishable and fresh food and wrapped gifts.

Finishing your basement requirements

Wondering what the code requirements are for finishing your basement? The Alberta Safety Codes Council has an excellent brochure "Safety Tips –Finishing your basement". Here is the link.

Basement bedroom windows

People are unsure what the requirements are for a basement bedroom window. Here is a direct quote from Alberta Safety codes:

"Unless a bedroom has a door that leads directly to the building exterior, or the basement is sprinklered, each bedroom must have at least one window that can be opened from the inside without the use of tools or technical knowledge. This window must provide an unobstructed opening with a minimum area of 0.35 m2 (3.77 ft2 or 543 square inches), and no dimension less than 380 mm (15 inches)."

Don't let someone sleep in a basement bedroom with a window that won't meet these requirements; if a fire were to happen you would be liable. Contact us for help finding contractors to enlarge basement windows or to order windows that meet egress. As a bonus, windows are now on sale!!
