By connecting the exterior faucet to a length of PEX pipe, instead of right to the copper, the wall won’t have to be ripped out inside the house if the bib ever fails.

By connecting the exterior faucet to a length of PEX pipe, instead of right to the copper, the wall won’t have to be ripped out inside the house if the bib ever fails.

Here is the first in our series of Site Tips, sponsored by Home Hardware.

This one comes to us from Paul Baylis, or R.H. Jones Mechanical Contractors, Prince George, B.C.

Paul says that inserting a length of PEX pipe when connecting up an exterior faucet will mean that, in the event of the faucet failing (presumably in the event of freezing), the bib can be replaced in a jiffy without digging into the interior wall.

Thanks to Paul for sending this in. Paul, you win a $100 gas card! We will have it in the mail to your right away!
