We have wrapped up a successful few weeks of Prairie Regional Meetings in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta with presentations from various vendors, the WRLA as well as Sexton team members.
Those of you that attended came ready to participate and asked important questions of our presenters and vendor partners. As always, your insights are incredibly helpful in getting our team the most current firsthand information on what is happening with your businesses, regions, and your Sexton vendors. All of this information helps our team to advocate and serve you to the best of our ability.
We are looking for member feedback on these events to continue making these meetings valuable and worth your time. Those of you who attended would have received a survey to fill out and give your thoughts on the meeting you attended. If you didn’t, please reach out to any of our team members to get a copy of the survey.
For those of you who do not regularly attend our Regional Meetings, we would love to hear your feedback on what would make you interested in attending these meetings and I encourage you to also reach out to anyone on our team if you have feedback you would like to share.
Thank you to all of those who attended and to the Sexton team for your hard work putting these events together.
– Eric
Krista Venn Celebrates 20 Years with Sexton Group
When Krista Venn started at Sexton Group, her oldest son, Travis was only six months old. She had connected with a recruiter and was looking for work when she came across an opportunity for a data entry based role with Sexton. Now many milestones later and celebrating her 20th anniversary, we asked Krista to look back on her time at Sexton.
On her first day, Krista remembers feeling nervous – not only was she starting a new job but she was also leaving Travis at daycare for the first time while she embarked on her first day at Sexton.
"When I walked in, everyone was really kind. You don’t always know what to expect when walking into a new company or if you will fit in, but from the start everyone was welcoming."
Krista learned a lot about the business from the start and over the years, she took on many roles in the company in areas of administration, accounting, and purchasing (to name a few) and currently resides in a leadership position with the group.
Krista has also seen and been a part of the growth of Sexton as a company. Processes changing for the better, new and improved systems to support members, and overall member growth both in numbers and regions.
Krista has been an integral part of the Sexton team, with many accomplishments under her belt. Right now, an accomplishment Krista is proud of is continuing her education at the University of Manitoba, pursuing a Certificate in Management and Administration (CIMA). Krista has a full plate between work, school, and family – and she is proud to have found the balance that allows her to succeed in all three areas.
When asked what her favourite part of working at Sexton is, Krista was quick to answer – the people.
"You don’t stay at a company for 20 years unless you like the people that you work for and work with." A mutual sentiment shared by Krista’s team members, demonstrated by the gesture made for her 20th anniversary celebration (pictured).
"Krista is and will continue to be a major part of the Sexton team. Her contributions over 20 years are countless. It is amazing to see a person take on many roles within our organization while at the same time building and leading her family outside of our office walls. Congrats Krista!"
– Eric Palmer, President, Sexton Group Ltd.
Finally, we asked Krista for her advice for those at the start of their careers. She stresses integrity as an important factor in it all. Defined by her as owning your mistakes and asking for help when you need it, treating others with respect, and being your authentic self.
Congratulations Krista and thank you for everything you have contributed over your 20 years at Sexton Group.

We are excited to announce another new team member joining us in 2024. This month, we have our new Program Coordinator, John Carlo Mendoza!
As Program Coordinator at Sexton Group, JC will be responsible for working closely with both internal and external resources to ensure our vendor programs are concisely maintained and reported.
JC holds his diploma in Business Administration, where he completed an internship and was very fortunate to work with WRLA as their Workforce Development Manager. Primarily, he worked on recruitment efforts in the LBM industry by attending and setting up career fairs for and with WRLA members. JC learned a lot during his time with WRLA and grew to enjoy this industry so much he decided to stay in it!
So far in his role, JC is enjoying getting to work with the Sexton team. He is still new in the LBM industry, and loves having a knowledgeable team around him that is always willing to lend a helping hand.
Outside of work, JC is into cars, primarily the tuner car scene, as well as gaming and building gaming computers.
Welcome JC, we are happy you have chosen to stick around in this great industry!
