Saga Enterprises sponsors Winners of the Cain's Quest
Cain's Quest Snowmobile Endurance Race has been described as the ultimate extreme racing adventure through the north. A beloved Newfoundland & Labrador event that happens every two years follows 45 teams of two travelling through 3500 kilometers of wilderness with a variety of topography, deep snow, thick wooded areas, and wide-open frozen lakes. They are not allowed to use any groomed trails or roads and must navigate the terrain as is.
The race runs day and night guided by GPS and gut instinct to get teams from checkpoint to checkpoint. This event requires a solid strategy, top gun riding skills, the will to keep going, a tough, dependable snowmobile, and a whole lot of luck! This is not for the faint of heart. Teams must make it through each checkpoint and stop at mandatory layover points in various communities along the way. Not everyone who leaves the start line will cross the finish line.
The race draws hundreds of dedicated volunteers as well as viewers from all over the world, including many loyal local viewers. Communities all across the province lend a helping hand with manning race checkpoints, headquarters, communications and more necessary work to make this race happen. This year's race also included participants from all over – including teams from Switzerland, Finland and Quebec as well as a number of local teams.
This year, Sexton Member, Saga Enterprises sponsored Team 99 (Saga Boys Vikings). The team is two former Saga employees Randy Malek and his Son Sebastian Malek. Randy and Sebastian are race veterans, but they had not yet won the race – until this year. It was a special year for the team to take the win, with Sebastian becoming a new father just before the race. His daughter coming in at 9.9 lbs – the same as the duo's assigned team number for that year (99) which Sebastion believes was a good luck charm for their 1st place victory.
The prize to the winner of this year's race was 50,000 dollars. Randy has for many years promised if he would donate a portion of his winning funds to the Janeway Children's Heath and Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's. A facility that showed his family great support when his own daughter needed medical help. He kept his promise when he placed 1st this year, donating 10,000 dollars of his winnings to the hospital.
Congratulations to Randy, Sebastian and Saga Enterprises for your long-awaited victory. We hope there are more to come in future races!
Sexton team member, Vannesa Obaseki, throws Women's Networking Event
On April 27th, Vannesa Obaseki – Program Coordinator at Sexton Group and her sister Joyce, threw their third annual Women's Conference under their House 104 Events Company at The Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg. The event, called The 104 Ladies Conference is an experience that unifies women from all walks of life, acting as a space for women to build their network through Self-development, Collaboration & Community.
This year, Sexton team members had the opportunity to attend the event. It was a full day consisting of inspirational speaking panels of women entrepreneurs, wellness coaches, financial advisors, marketing experts and more. The event was not only educational but the event space was also transformed with many fun elements such as a bounce castle, balloon pit and local, women-owned businesses showcasing their products and services for attendees throughout the space. After a morning of brunch and a panel of incredible speakers, the afternoon included breakout sessions for attendees to learn from experts in the categories of wealth, wellness, and creativity followed by a panel of women mentors from backgrounds such as medicine, marketing, media, and holistic wellness. The event was a tremendous success, with a full house of attendees from all walks of life – mothers, businesswomen, students and more came together, asked thoughtful questions and shared their experiences with one another.
Congratulations to Vannesa and Joyce on an amazing event!
