Sexton Member Conference – Excursion Registration is here and Conference itinerary is coming soon!

As we get closer to November, we are excited to be finalizing our plans for the 2024 Sexton Member Conference. Many of you, our members, have been asking our team for the itinerary of events and I am happy to let you all know – it is coming very soon. Our Conference Committee is working hard to put together a great program, with many of the elements you have loved in the past, as well as some new ones to make it an even better experience for our members than the last. In the spirit of the upcoming conference, I encourage you to stay connected with our team, check your emails and keep up with the Sexton Member Conference Website (www.sextonmemberconferenece.com) to see updates on all things Sexton Member Conference.

One exciting installment I can bring you today from our November itinerary is our excursion day. We once again will be having a collective activity day, as a full Conference group. This is always a pivotal day in the Conference where connections are made between our Sexton members, vendors and team, and a lot of fun is had too. If you are registered for the Conference, you should have received an email with four exciting options to choose from and a description of each activity. Please be sure to fill that out and ensure anyone who is accompanying you on the Conference is accounted for as well. If you for any reason believe you did not receive the email, you can reach out to our conference committee at conference@sextongroup.com or call the Sexton office at 204-694-0269.

I am looking forward to connecting with those of you who will be attending in just a few short months.

Gunther's Building Center Celebrates 70 Years of Business Excellence in Calgary

Calgary, AB – In a remarkable milestone, Gunther's Building Center Ltd. (GBC) is celebrating 70 years of providing top-quality building supplies to the Calgary and area market. The business, founded in 1954 by Gunther Kockerbeck, has grown to become a cornerstone of the local residential construction industry supplying over 100,000 single and multi-family homes.
Gunther Kockerbeck and his wife Mary moved to Calgary from Frankfurt, Germany, in 1952, driven by a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Two years later, Gunther established Gunther's Building Supplies Ltd. the parent company of the current operating company Gunther's Building Center Ltd. (GBC), offering quality interior building supplies with a focus on integrity and excellent service. Gunther had the good sense to see that Calgary's homebuilders needed a one-stop shop for their interior finishing needs - doors, moldings, plywood, finish lumber and hardware. His insight and hard work in developing the finish package concept resulted in the rotary and ribbon mahogany packages, and related hardware options being introduced into Calgary in the late 50's. Over the years, the interior finish packages offered by Gunther's have evolved and helped set fashion trends in Calgary's housing market. The company quickly earned a reputation for reliability and became a trusted name among builders, developers, and custom home builders.

Over the decades, the Kockerbeck family has played a pivotal role in the business's success. Gunther and Mary welcomed four sons, each of whom contributed to the company's growth. Today, two of those sons continue to own and manage the private company, ensuring that Gunther's legacy of quality and service endures. Peter Kockerbeck still remains very active in the business together with a growing and dedicated team.

Adding to the family legacy, Spencer Kockerbeck, a grandson of Gunther, is now deeply engaged in the operation of the business. With a passion for upholding the company's standards, Spencer represents the future of Gunther's Building Center. His involvement promises to keep the business at the forefront of Calgary's housing market.

Located at 2100 – 10th Avenue Southwest, Gunther's Building Center remains committed to supplying high-quality finishing materials and installation to its diverse clientele. As Calgary continues to grow and evolve, Gunther's Building Center stands as a testament to the enduring values of hard work, integrity, and exceptional service.

"We all understand that it takes a lot more than leadership to run a business, and a huge part of the GBC success story is directly attributable to the dedicated and reliable team of employee's that we have had on board in the past, and that have joined us for the future. It is the combined team effort that makes our business work and come together for our customers. We would like to thank our loyal customers and dedicated staff for the ongoing support in our business operations."
- Peter Kockerbeck

As the company marks its 70th anniversary, the Kockerbeck family reflects on its journey with pride and looks forward to continuing its contribution to Calgary's development. Gunther's Building Center is not just a business; it's a legacy that has shaped the city's skyline and will continue to do so for generations to come.

Congratulations on 70 amazing years!
