Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence: The Family Business Journey of Dynasty Bathrooms

As Dynasty Bathrooms marks its 40th anniversary, we reflect on a remarkable journey of success that began in 1984. A humble start, Dynasty Bathrooms began in the neighborhood of East Kildonan in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in founder Ken Onsowich's basement.

Ken, the visionary behind Dynasty Bathrooms, was driven by a passion for top-notch customer service and a desire to offer an unparalleled product selection, distinguishing himself from big-box competitors.
With his partner, Brian Turcotte, the duo dedicated their time to making their operation a success, meeting potential clients in the evenings and handling the physical work themselves during the days. Ken's wife, Margret and sister Irene also played integral roles in the business. Margret handled the bookkeeping, and Irene held positions of sales associate, purchaser and job coordinator – sitting next to Ken for many of those years.

Their hard work and dedication paid off, and two years later, the business achieved the significant milestone of opening an official storefront at 369 Logan Ave in Winnipeg. This marked the beginning of a significant growth phase, with Ken and Brian gradually expanding their team to include a salesman, a job coordinator/purchaser, and dedicated installers. Over the decades, Dynasty Bathrooms has grown substantially, now a full-service Bathroom and Kitchen Renovator boasting two showrooms, a team of 18 dedicated professionals, and numerous renovation awards recognizing their superior customer service and craftsmanship. Their commitment to excellence is further evidenced by their accreditations with CHBA, MHBA, Renomark, and the BBB.

One of the standout achievements in Dynasty's journey was the opening of their second showroom in South Winnipeg at 996 Lorimer Blvd in 2017. This new location, spanning over 5,000 square feet, offers an expansive display of bathroom and kitchen products, setting a new standard for selection and inspiration for Dynasty customers.

Like many businesses, Dynasty Bathrooms has faced various challenges, from inflation and competition to staffing and the COVID-19 pandemic. Part of Dynasty's longevity has stemmed from their ability to adapt when challenges arise. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the business developed an e-commerce site to provide solutions to customers during lockdowns. While this cannot fully replace the face-to-face service clients receive at Dynasty Bathrooms, it allowed customers to plan and create their dream bathrooms and find products even while in lockdown. The e-commerce site continues to offer flexibility to customers to this day.

The passing of founder Ken Onsowich in April 2023 was a profound loss for Dynasty Bathrooms. At just 69 years old, Ken left behind a legacy that his daughter, Tina Driscoll, Vice President, now upholds. Stepping into her father's large shoes, Tina and the second generation of Dynasty are embracing new approaches to drive the business forward while honoring Ken's legacy. Ken was not just the founder; he was the architect of a Dynasty—a testament to his unwavering commitment, vision, and dedication to creating something truly exceptional.

As Tina Driscoll reflects on her family legacy and four decades of success, she offers this advice to those looking to embark on their own business ventures: surround yourself with the right people. Share your vision and goals with your team, and ensure that everyone understands their value and role in achieving the company's objectives.

Looking to the future, Dynasty Bathrooms is focused on further strengthening relationships with smaller renovators, facilitating mutual support as local businesses and continuing to create beautifully crafted work together.

Dynasty Bathrooms remains dedicated to its roots in delivering exceptional service and inspiring bathroom and kitchen renovations, driven by a rich history and a forward-looking vision.

Here's to 40 years of excellence and many more to come!

Contractors have the skills necessary to build, reconstruct and renovate – but may not have the skills to invest and fund a multi-million dollar project. Changing the game plan: Lyall

Famed theoretical physicist and scientist Albert Einstein once said, "Bureaucracy is the death of all sound work." I doubt he was specifically referring to the myriad rules, regulations and red tape that residential construction industry builders and contractors must overcome before they can put shovels in the ground for a project – but it certainly seems an appropriate adage in this day and age.
