2025 Sexton Group Team Meeting

Every year, the Sexton team from coast to coast gets together for an in-person meeting where we facilitate and take away ideas to strengthen our team, and in turn, continuously improve in how we serve our members. As always, this year our team showed up enthusiastic and ready to share their ideas. Each person contributed their time and thoughts, bringing forth not only great topics for discussion, but also a sense of team spirit.

After business is done, we always take the opportunity while we are all together to get out and do a team bonding activity. I always enjoy getting the chance to do this, because it is a unique opportunity for the team members who may not interact daily for work, to spend some time together, and allow even those who do work together, to connect and have some fun outside of the office. Seeing our team members connect is a great feeling, and I can say that in my experience it has always led to strong relationships and commitment when working together.

For this year’s team activity, we went to Fort Whyte Alive and spent the afternoon doing a ‘Wild Goose Chase.’ Our entire team broke up into 5 groups and using a web-based app, went on a photography scavenger hunt. We were all given the same series of missions to complete and submit a photo of us completing the mission on the app. Points were earned by completing the mission and additional points were given for creativity and photo captions! Our winning team was Stephanie, Don, Dave and Angel finishing with an amazing 22,965 points!

Congratulations to our winners and a thank you to our entire team for showing up and making this day great year after year. Special thanks as well to Krista Venn, the organizer of our event, for your hard work putting it all together. I look forward to seeing how our teams’ ideas will help our group to continue in our strength and success.

Hardscaping 101: The benefits, and what you should tell your customers

Hardscaping refers to the non-living elements of landscape, such as pathways, retaining walls, and patios. It plays a crucial role in enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of outdoor living spaces. Here’s what your customers need to know:

What are some of the main elements of hardscaping? We might think first of patios, fencing, fire pits, or other large projects when it comes to hardscaping. While these are all major elements, things like edging or border materials for gardens, drainage materials such as pipes or foundational materials such as gravel are all a part of hardscaping.

What are areas for consideration when hardscaping? Proper drainage is crucial for the success of any hardscaping project. Water should flow away from any incorporated structures and never pool in low-lying areas. Material selection is another integral part of hardscaping, as you must select not only materials that complement the look of your home, but also have the durability, maintenance level and cost you are looking for.

What are the benefits of hardscaping? Aside from enhanced curb appeal, hardscaping can improve outdoor spaces for better functionality and relaxation. It can also allow for better erosion and drainage control on one’s property. Lastly, a big benefit, specifically for homeowners, is with hardscaping is it is often less maintenance than other landscaping options might be, saving time and energy.
