StatsCanada: The total value of building permits rose 2.3 per cent in May

The total value of building permits in Canada rose 2.3% in May to $12.1 billion. The non-residential sector increased 7.0% to $4.3 billion, while the residential sector edged down 0.1% to $7.8 billion.

Ontario WSIB appoints new health and safety chair

On June 23, 2022 Sean McFarling was appointed to the position of Chair of the WSIB’s Health and Safety Committee. Sean joined the WSIB Board in February 2020 just before the pandemic began and has been serving most recently as Vice Chair of the Health and Safety Committee.

Recorded the day after Ontario returned Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives to majority government, Luca Bucci, CEO of the OHBA, joined The Hammer to register the association’s official reaction to the new government and share his thoughts on what should happen and what might happen going forward. He talks about why the OHBA is overall excited and positive about the PCs returning to power. The topic of housing prices and supply was important in the election and Bucci has ideas about things the new government might do to resolve the bottlenecks to development, including moving municipalities past the notion that development is always bad for the environment.
