Modular construction can help address Canada’s housing crisis, new report finds

CSA Public Policy Centre‘s new report, Seizing the Modular Opportunity, highlights how consideration needs to be given to modular construction. By standardizing components used in the manufacturing process, modular construction has the potential to reduce waste by as much 46 per cent. Due to the controlled production environment, it can also reduce construction emissions by up to 22 per cent.


Climate training for construction workers coming soon

Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) is setting out to up the entire building industry’s climate knowledge with a new training initiative focused on the role of the trades in addressing and adapting to climate change. The Building It Green project aims to "to enroll as many trades instructors as possible in a free, short online course on the basics of climate change followed by a more comprehensive in-person training session."


Additional funding to help Nova Scotians excel in skilled trades

Nova Scotia is increasing funding for the Work-based Trades Practical Assessment program and a training program run by the Nova Scotia Building Officials Association. Expanding support for the Work-based Trades Practical Assessment program, a partnership between the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency and the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS), will increase the supply of skilled trades professionals in the province.
