Building permits for August 2024

Statistics Canada, The Daily, has released its data on building permits for August 2024. The total value of building permits in Canada decreased by $858.1 million to $11.5 billion in August, following a strong July during which construction intentions rose sharply.


Silica dust safety toolkit receives funding

A potentially lifesaving toolkit addressing one of the construction industry’s biggest threats is set to come to fruition thanks to a cash windfall in memory of a sector visionary. Dr. Scott McGibbon is developing a resident, construction client and professional silica toolkit.


Housing starts for September 2024

The six-month trend in housing starts decreased 1.3 percent from 246,972 units in August to 243,759 units in September. The trend measure is a six-month moving average of the seasonally adjusted annual rate of total housing starts for all areas in Canada.


RESCON commends plan by federal Conservatives to reduce sales tax on new homes

If elected, the Residential Construction Council of Ontario (RESCON) approves the federal Conservatives and their plans to axe the federal sales tax on new homes sold for under $1 million.
