Avian producers urged to practise biosecurity in wake of U.S. disease detections and migration

In early 2016 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) was identified in commercial poultry flocks in the United States and Mexico. Wild birds, known carriers of the influenza virus, are believed to be the source of the outbreak in the U.S. Wild birds are now in migration. House fly control in poultry barns

Poultry barns provide an ideal environment for house fly populations to thrive if sufficient control methods are not in place. Controlling house fly populations is important for maintaining a healthy barn environment. The presence of large numbers of flies in an area can create a strain on neighbour and community relations.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) has created a free guide that presents a wide range of management options for poultry producers to control house flies in their barns. The free guide provides guidance to producers on how they can tailor fly control strategies to match their unique circumstances.
