Mali's military government seized over $117 million worth of gold from the Malian Loulo-Gounkoto mine using state helicopters that landed unannounced and removed roughly 35,000 ounces of gold. The mine is owned by Canadian mining corporation Barrick. The seizure is the latest escalation in a dispute between the Canadian mining giant and Mali's ruling government, which has controlled the country since 2021. A June court ruling placed the mine under government control for six months, and mining has been suspended since January when authorities initially seized three tonnes of gold.

Saskatchewan has joined Alberta and Ontario in signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at developing cross-provincial pipeline and trade infrastructure. The agreement outlines plans for the three provinces to collaborate on new pipeline construction along a route connecting western Canadian oil and gas resources to refineries in southern Ontario and a proposed deep-sea port in James Bay. The memorandum also includes provisions for new rail lines linking critical mineral deposits in Ontario's Ring of Fire region to western Canadian ports.

Jackson Wijaya, majority shareholder of Domtar Corporation, has outlined plans to consolidate operations and expand the company's presence in North America's pulp and paper sector. The 45-year-old Indonesian businessman aims to streamline factory operations, evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions, and implement sustainability initiatives targeting 2030 environmental, social and governance benchmarks.
