Trump Administration Identifies Canada's Plastic Waste Initiative as Trade Obstacle

The United States has flagged Canada's Zero Plastic Waste Agenda as a potential barrier to trade, prompting mixed reactions from Canadian industry stakeholders and environmental advocates. According to an April 1 report issued by the U.S. Trade Representative, American industry representatives worry that Canada's proposed packaging reforms could threaten food safety and limit U.S. agricultural market access.


Shell Cancels Rotterdam Biofuels Plant Construction After Viability Review

Shell has decided not to restart construction of a biofuels facility at its energy and chemicals park in Rotterdam. The project, which began in 2022, was halted following a commercial and technical evaluation that found it would not be competitive enough, according to Shell Nederland Raffinaderij B.V., a subsidiary of Shell plc. Machteld de Haan, the company's downstream, renewables and energy solutions president, said market conditions and completion costs made the project unviable.


Wood Awarded EPCM Contract for Thaioil Refinery Expansion in Thailand

Wood has been awarded a contract with Thai Oil Public Company Limited to provide engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the company's Clean Fuel Project. The project will expand and upgrade Thaioil's refinery in Sriracha, Thailand, to increase crude refining capacity and produce lower-emission finished products.
