ECO Canada, the steward for the Canadian environmental workforce, is again helping environmental employers hire young talent with its wage funding programs. Designed to help employers attract new talent and offset wage and training costs, these programs are seeing young professionals and students kickstart their environmental careers in a sector that is growing exponentially year-on-year.

To date ECO Canada has distributed over $90M in wage and training subsidies and helped to fill 10,000+ job placements.

According to ECO Canada’s most recent Labour Market Outlook Report (funded by the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Initiatives Program), the Canadian environmental workforce grew by five per cent in 2020 despite the challenges of the pandemic. In its report, the organization forecasts there will be approximately 100,000 additional job openings in the environmental sector in the next five years as workers continue to retire. As climate change intensifies and the demand for green solutions increases, this large number of skilled workers exiting the workforce makes the industry vulnerable to a skills gap, which has been identified as a challenge for current employers. ECO Canada’s wage funding programs aim to close the skills gap by providing young talent the opportunity to learn on the job while subsidizing training costs to support the organization.

Thanks to ECO Canada’s funding partners, there are several wage funding and training subsidy programs available to employers and job candidates across the country- visit ECO Canada’s website to find the right program for you.
