With the launch of the Priority Subwatershed Project in the Jeannette's Creek area in Ontario, eligible farm businesses can share up to $75,000 of the costs of implementing specific agronomic and soil health best management practices (BMPs) on their land. An Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada study took place over a four-year period and compared two different tile drain depths and spacings for regular free drainage and controlled drainage/sub-irrigation systems in a corn and soybean rotation. The theory, based on previous reports that reduced tile spacing led to an increase in tile drainage volume, was that subsurface tile spacing and depth affected the efficacy of tile drainage practices.
