Improving water quality through cost-share program

With the launch of the Priority Subwatershed Project in the Jeannette's Creek area in Ontario, eligible farm businesses can share up to $75,000 of the costs of implementing specific agronomic and soil health best management practices (BMPs) on their land. The program includes rigorous monitoring and verification of those BMPs to track their effectiveness.


New app for planning agricultural drainage systems

Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. (ADS) has developed the Agricultural Drainage app, a new mobile application for planning agricultural drainage systems, offering automatic calculations for both the proper quantity and type of pipe needed to achieve the drainage required.

The right methods for tile drain depth and spacing to reduce nutrient loss

An Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada study took place over a four-year period and compared two different tile drain depths and spacings for regular free drainage and controlled drainage/sub-irrigation systems in a corn and soybean rotation. The theory, based on previous reports that reduced tile spacing led to an increase in tile drainage volume, was that subsurface tile spacing and depth affected the efficacy of tile drainage practices. » Read more...
