Louisiana parish consolidated drainage districts from seven to two

The police jury in Calcasieu Parish, located on the southwest border of Louisiana, voted to consolidate the drainage districts from seven to two. Officials said the change allows for drainage to be managed based on watersheds, rather than political boundaries.

Learning curve: experimenting with controlled drainage on a slope

While controlled drainage has worked in Ontario on flat fields, it has never been attempted on a field with rolling ground. This is partly due to the need to run laterals on contour in order to prevent tile blow-outs from the pressure that control gates put on the system.
