With climate change creating numerous challenges for landowners – including seasons that are bone-dry, followed by ones with excess water – a one-size-fits-all drainage system might not suffice any longer if farmers want to boast consistently high, valuable yields. The problem? Drain tile systems are expensive and, ideally, last a long lifetime. As such, it could make sense to invest in drainage water management practices such as controlled drainage. This feature explores experiments in Ohio with promising results.
