Denitrifying bioreactors are widely recognized as an environmentally beneficial practice when it comes to drainage. In order to reduce nitrates before water before it makes its way to waterways, bioreactors require a carbon source. Most commonly, that source comes from woodchips. Those woodchips are highly specialized and thus hard to get one's hands on. Now, a team in the Midwest is exploring the potential for a different material: corn cobs.
