		Hollow Shaft Encoders – Available with 1/4" up to 5” Through Bores Hollow shaft encoders are direct shaft mounted and generally more compact that solid shaft encoders. They also have the benefit of simplifying the installation by eliminating the need of flexible couplings, mounting brackets and alignment requirements. A hollow shaft encoder is essentially mounted to the motor or drive shaft directly by shaft to shaft interface. Not only does this eliminate the coupling and associated alignment issues, it provides a more accurate and direct read of the movement. Since the encoder is shaft mounted, the outer housing only needs to be “restrained” from rotational movement. This is generally accomplished with a locating pin or torque arm attached to the encoder housing and motor frame. We offer hollow shaft encoders with a wide range of hollow shaft bore sizes from 1/4” up to 5” (6 mm up to 125 mm). The hollow bore size will determine which encoder model we can provide



		Solid Shaft Encoders – Industry Leading – Incremental and Absolute. Shaft encoders although more complex to install compared to hollow shaft encoders, they can generally withstand more harsh environmental conditions by virtue of their construction. Solid shaft encoders are also capable of withstanding higher shaft loads and are more suited to measuring wheel and belt drive applications, where as hollow shaft encoders are generally designed to carry their own weight and are never used in load bearing applications.
