Two ways to keep toxic mercury out of our environment

Two ways to keep toxic mercury out of our environment

Mercury is a toxic pollutant that threatens the health of people, fish and other wildlife. It is found in many types of commercial products, and is released when discarded in landfills, rather than recycled. Nova Scotia Power and Efficiency Nova Scotia have partnered together to help reduce the amount of mercury entering our lakes and rivers through two great programs.

Dispose of mercury-containing products safely and easily through the free Mercury Collection recycling program, available to contractors and wholesalers in Nova Scotia. You can simply drop off your old mercury-containing products at one of the collection locations, and they will be recycled properly. For a list of drop-off locations and accepted products, visit mercuryns.ca.

Your business can also register to become a Mercury Collector through our partner, Scout Environmental. Register today and you'll receive:

   • An approved container for storage and shipment
   • A pre-paid Purolator waybill to return your full container
   • Educational and promotional materials

Registration is easy and free. Complete the registration by November 24, 2017 for a chance to win $100 Visa gift card.
