Ontario wasted 7 TWh of clean electricity in 2020 – OSPE

The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers recently found Ontario wasted (curtailed) a total of 7 TWh of clean electricity in 2020, enough to power 780,000 homes. “This system is too expensive and not sustainable. Change is required now,” said Mark Frayne, P.Eng., OSPE president & chair.

More power, zero emissions, cleaner air – CNA2021

Electricity currently supports 20% of Canada’s energy needs, noted John Gorman, president & CEO of the Canadian Nuclear Association. “If we’re trying to shift away from other fuels, we’ll need to build 19 more Bruce Power stations [approx. 121,600 MW], or 20,000 wind turbines to make up this difference.”
