10-MW microgrid project coming to The Island’s Slemon Park

Located a short distance from Summerside, the business park hosts aerospace, manufacturing, and safety training organizations. It is also home to a residential community of more than 230 families. In collaboration with PEI Energy Corp., Ameresco will develop a microgrid consisting of a 10-MW solar facility with direct current-coupled energy storage.


58-MW solar farm coming to Shell Scotford

Silicon Ranch and Shell Canada announced plans to build a 58-MW solar farm adjacent to Shell’s Energy & Chemicals Park Scotford near Edmonton. Silicon Ranch—an independent power producer and the North American solar platform for Shell—will build, own, and operate the solar farm. All power-generation capacity will be dedicated to the Scotford refinery for the next 25 years.


Whitehorse’s Haeckel Hill wind project sees new funding partnership

Haeckel Hill will be getting four wind turbines that aim to generate enough electricity for up to 650 homes over their life span, replacing the equivalent of more than 40 million litres of diesel and offsetting up to 115,000 tonnes of GHG emissions. “These new wind turbines [...] will enhance the grid’s ability to meet peak winter electricity demand while reducing our reliance on diesel,” said Dr. Brendan Hanley, MP for Yukon.

5-MW battery energy storage system in Collingwood operational

Convergent Energy + Power announced that the industrial-scale BESS it developed for NSG Group’s Pilkington Glass Facility in Collingwood, Ont., is operational. The 5-MW/10-MWh BESS is the first for NSG Group. It takes approx. 50% of Pilkington’s demand offline, replacing that power from the batteries directly, saving the facility $1 million per year. » Read more
