Ottawa is providing $5 million in funding to help establish processing and production at Vital Metals (Saskatoon, Sask.), Canada’s first rare earths producer, reports the Prime Minister’s Office. The manufacture of permanent magnets is the single-largest and most important end use for rare earth elements, says NRCan, and they’re necessary for electric vehicle motors and many cleantech applications.
