10 actions for energy efficiency while reducing costs and emissions

“The industrial energy efficiency playbook”—a new report from ABB’s Energy Efficiency Movement—shows that improving industrial energy efficiency “is the fastest and most effective way for a company to reduce its energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions”. The 10 actions contained in this report “are known cost-effective resources, and can be employed at scale rapidly to help companies convert climate ambition into action,” said Kevin Lane, International Energy Agency.

Proposed Opitciwan biomass cogen plant ticks “every box”

“Replacing the current diesel plant with one that’s powered by forest biomass from the sawmill is a huge step forward,” said Denis Clary, president, Société en commandite Onimiskiw Opitciwan. “Cutting annual GHGs emissions is good for our people’s health and helps improve the environmental performance of Quebec and Canada, as well.” The plant is scheduled for commissioning in July 2026.

Lawrence Livermore achieves fusion energy break-even

A team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s National Ignition Facility conducted the first controlled fusion experiment to achieve energy break-even; meaning, it produced more energy from fusion than the laser energy used to drive it. The lab’s experiment surpassed the fusion threshold by delivering 2.05 MJ of energy to the target, resulting in 3.15 MJ of fusion energy output, demonstrating “a most fundamental science basis for inertial fusion energy”. » Learn more
