Launch of International Construction Startup Competition

Cemex Ventures has kicked off the 2023 Construction Startup Competition, alongside partners Black & Veatch, Dysruptek by Haskell, Ferrovial, Hilti, Vinci Group’s Leonard, Nova by Saint-Gobain, Trimble and Trimble Ventures, and Zacua Ventures. The competition is looking for “the most promising startup solutions” that pertain to sustainability, enhanced productivity, supply chains, and new construction methods and technologies within the sector.


250-MW Oneida storage project scores $50-MIL cash injection

The governments of Canada and Ontario announced they are “working together to build the largest battery storage project in in the country”—the 250-MW Oneida Energy storage project, which is being developed by the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corp., Northland Power, NRStor and Aecon Group. Ottawa is providing a further $50 million in funding, reports the Ontario Premier’s Office, adding the Canada Infrastructure Bank has played a key role supporting project development.

Saint John Energy receives $4 MIL to map “critical path” to net-zero

Statistics Canada reports the total monthly value of building permits in Canada advanced 11.3% in March to $11.8 billion, led by sharply increasing growth in the non-residential sector. The total monthly value of non-residential permits increased 32.0% to a record-high $5.2 billion, with 10 individual non-residential projects valued at over $100 million each.
