Canadians registered 466,990 new vehicles in the second quarter of 2023, reports Statistics Canada. So, what are we buying? In Q2, the sole year-over-year decrease was observed in passenger cars (-7.1%), despite increasing 37.0% from the previous quarter. In the second quarter, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) had the largest percentage increase amongst fuel types (+49.3%) when compared with one year earlier, followed by hybrid electric vehicles, which increased 42.0% during the same period.

Employees of Ontario’s Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) who belong to the Society of United Professionals (SUP) commenced strike action in late September. The Society represents about 12% of ESA’s workforce, whose positions range from product safety specialists and engineers to communications, IT technicians, analysts, and technical advisors.
