The total monthly value of building permits in Canada increased 3.4% in August 2023 to $11.9 billion, reports Statistics Canada, with strong gains in the non-residential sector offsetting modest declines in residential construction intentions.

ABB is switching its global fleet to electric vehicles – how are they doing?

Stationary battery manufacturer HiTHIUM announced a new 5MWh, 20-foot container. The system will come pre-installed and ready to connect, with 48 battery modules based on HiTHIUM’s 314Ah LFP cells. Designed to meet the needs of large utility scale systems, each module provides 104.5kWh capacity.

With an energy density of 117 Wh/l, the HiTHIUM ∞Block features 46% higher density standard systems based on 280Ah cells and is technically compatible with top brands’ inverters. It comes with mature liquid-cooling technology, keeping cell temperature variation below 3°C. Intelligent thermal management enables the system to optimize battery power and reduce internal energy consumption.

$25,000 fine and probation for unlicensed Ottawa electrician

Ontario’s Electrical Safety Authority reports that Oscar L. was convicted in Ottawa on several counts of operating an electrical contracting business without a valid licence, and for failing to file notifications of work (permits) with ESA. Oscar L. was ordered by the court to pay $25,000 in fines for electrical work he conducted on separate occasions at several commercial properties in Ottawa, and has been placed on probation until May 2025. » Read more

Prysmian marks next phase of construction at Sedalia plant

Against the backdrop of its $45-million expansion project, Prysmian Group recently hosted a “beam-signing” ceremony to mark the next construction phase at its Sedalia, Mo., plant. The investment, says Prysmian, includes a 115,000-sf addition to the existing plant, and will create at least 60 new jobs.
