Southern Alberta Institute of Technology is receiving over $2.5 million in federal funding to establish the Alternative Construction Technologies Centre. The new facility will be home to specialized equipment and laboratories that small- and medium-sized businesses can use to develop, test, and commercialize new products, processes and services for the construction sector.

IPEX has officially cut the ribbon and opened its 200,000-sf “technological flagship” manufacturing facility in Pineville, N.C. “This facility is an important part of our North American growth strategy to expand our U.S. footprint and better serve our customers,” said Alex Mestres, CEO. “I am proud to share that our $200-million investment in this Pineville facility is IPEX’s largest investment to date, and is one of the most advanced plastics facilities in the manufacturing industry.”

Investment in building construction increased 1.1% to $17.9 billion in August, reports Statistics Canada. The non-residential sector remained relatively stable, up 0.1% to $5.9 billion, while the residential sector was up 1.6% to $11.9 billion. Despite gains in industrial (+1.1%; +$13.4 billion) and institutional (+0.7%; +$10.1 million) investment, the decline in the commercial component (-0.5%; -$15.8 million) left the non-residential sector largely unchanged for the month.

Terex Utilities reports that 100% of the electricity that powers its facilities in South Dakota comes from renewable resources, and has been since January 2022. “This was made possible through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates [RECs] from our local utilities,” said Eric Moore, facilities manager. A REC is created each time 1 MWh of renewable energy is generated and made available for consumption.
