The total monthly value of building permits—non-residential and residential—in Canada decreased 6.5% in September to $11.2 billion, reports Statistics Canada, with most of the drop attributed to the monthly decline in the institutional component. The total monthly value of non-residential permits fell 21.0% from August to $4.0 billion in September. This drop was attributed to the decline in construction intentions for the institutional component (-50.7% to $1.0 billion), following a record high for the component in August ($2.1 billion).

SK On, EcoProBM and Ford are investing $1.2 billion to build a cathode manufacturing facility in Bécancour that will provide materials needed for batteries for Ford’s future electric vehicles. The new facility—Ford’s first investment in Quebec—is part of the automaker’s plan to localize key battery raw material processing in regions where it produces EVs. Once production begins, the site will have the capacity to support the production of up to 225,000 electric vehicles annually.

After many years across numerous aspects of the electrical industry, Jim Taggart has announced he is retiring effective December 31.
