After a 36-year career at the company, François Anquetil—president of Sonepar Canada—will be retiring. “I am very proud of how we grew the business in Canada, and in the development of careers for our associates,” said Anquetil. “It’s very gratifying to watch someone who started as a sales account manager grow their career to lead a large functional area of the organization today.” His successor is George McClean.

Stationary battery manufacturer HiTHIUM announced a new 5MWh, 20-foot container. The system will come pre-installed and ready to connect, with 48 battery modules based on HiTHIUM’s 314Ah LFP cells. Designed to meet the needs of large utility scale systems, each module provides 104.5kWh capacity.
With an energy density of 117 Wh/l, the HiTHIUM ∞Block features 46% higher density standard systems based on 280Ah cells and is technically compatible with top brands’ inverters. It comes with mature liquid-cooling technology, keeping cell temperature variation below 3°C. Intelligent thermal management enables the system to optimize battery power and reduce internal energy consumption.

Urgent action—that’s what producers of electrical wire/cable and steel in Canada would like to see from the Government of Canada to create a fair marketplace and support their long-term success. “The steel and aluminum industries are a classic example. These industries work hard and spend significant monies to conform to Canadian environmental regulations and other rules that are not imposed on their foreign competitors,” says Catherine Swift, president of the Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses of Canada.

The company says Quebec is the ideal location for Volta’s first North American factory because of its strategic geographical location and “strong political commitment to making electric vehicle battery production a key sector of its economy”.
