Ontario is launching a new round of the Grid Innovation Fund—worth $9.5 million—to support projects that demonstrate how electrification can be achieved in a way that helps address the province’s growing electricity demand in the transportation, and space and water heating and cooling sectors while maintaining grid reliability, sustainability, and affordability for ratepayers.

Calling it the “first-of-its-kind clean energy project”, Eaton has officially cut the ribbon on the microgrid project at its Arecibo, Puerto Rico, facility. The microgrid system incorporates 5 MWac solar PV, approximately 1.1 MW of battery storage, and existing onsite generators. The project will generate more than half of the facility’s energy needs, helping to reduce emissions, offset energy costs, and provide resilience during grid outage events.

With great sadness, Electrical Business Magazine reports the passing of Bruce Wesley MacGowan (Royal Pipe) on April 10, at home, with his daughters by his side. He was 67. His obituary explains MacGowan was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early February, and it progressed quickly.

The Government of Canada issued a call for proposals for two new funding opportunities under the SJTF to help employers, organizations, and unions train workers for jobs “in the low-carbon economy”. Projects will range from $8 million to $15 million each, with agreements starting this year, and must focus on at least one of several areas that will help workers develop required skills.
