Technical Safety BC has proclaimed March 4, 2025, as the date the Province of British Columbia adopts the 2024 edition of the Canadian Electrical Code-Part I (C22.1 “Safety standard for electrical installations”). All electrical work subject to the BC Electrical Code must comply with the 2024 edition effective March 4, 2025. All code-related information bulletins and directives issued to date remain in effect.

Littelfuse held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new plant in Mexico, which doubles the company’s manufacturing capacity (and leaves room for expansion). The 106,000-sf facility is located close to three other company operations in the city, and is already producing a range of electrical solutions for the renewable energy, data centre and telecom, commercial construction, HVAC, and OEM sectors.

In conjunction with Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Good Earth Lighting is voluntarily recalling 12-in. rechargeable LED motion-activated light bars because the battery can overheat and ignite the light’s plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. In the United States, the company has received nine reports of incidents, including seven reports of fires, one report of property damage, and one report of a fatality.

Month over month, the total value of building permits in Canada increased significantly—20.5% to $12.8 billion—in April 2024, reports Statistics Canada. At the front of the pack was British Columbia, posting a record-high monthly total value of building permits ($3.1 billion), leading the monthly increases in both residential and non-residential sectors in Canada.

Building on its “Working for Workers” acts, the Ontario government is introducing a 5th instalment that will see regulatory changes being made to the Occupational Health & Safety Act requiring menstrual products be provided “on larger construction sites”. The government will also seek requirements for clean and sanitary washrooms, and update harassment definitions.
