Investment in building construction took a dive across both non-residential and residential sectors overall, although many individual components saw growth. Investment in non-residential construction edged down by $31.2 million (-0.5%) to $6.3 billion in April, reports Statistics Canada. Seven of the 13 provinces and territories reported gains in institutional construction investment, with Manitoba leading the way.

Health Canada has determined the Honglou 4PACK duplex electrical outlet wall plate with LED night lights “likely poses a danger to human health or safety, and poses an unreasonable risk of electrical shock and fire”. It has two electrical prongs that extend from the back of the plate, which contact both sets of screws on any standard receptacle and draw power for its three bottom-mounted LEDs.

With an investment of about $15 billion (including investment by joint venture [JV] partners), Honda Motor Co. Ltd. announced it plans to build a “comprehensive EV value chain in Canada” to strengthen its electric vehicle supply system and capability to prepare for a future increase in EV demand in North America. Honda estimates it will add a minimum of 1000 new employees for the EV and battery manufacturing facilities.

After serving 24 years as CSA Group’s project manager for the Canadian Electrical Code-Part I, Timothy (Tim) Pope is retiring. “In Canada we have an enviable electrical safety system [and] Tim Pope is one of those people who is always working in the background to support Canadian electrical safety standards,” said Nansy Hanna, P.Eng., a member of the CE Code-Part I Technical Committee.
