To advance vehicle electrification across the country, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources launched a new Request for Proposals under the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) to help deploy “thousands more chargers across Canada”. The RFP will support the deployment of electric vehicle chargers in both public and private locations. As such, there are 2 Streams under this RFP, with differing requirements.

Following the decision to end its distribution agreement with Ouellet Canada Inc., Glen Dimplex Americas will take over the direct sales and distribution of all Convectair and Dimplex products in the Canadian electrical distribution market starting September 16. The company has appointed Nicholas Delle Donne as the national sales manager for the Canadian electrical distribution channel.

Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) released the final medal results of the 2024 Skills Canada National Competition. Over the course of the national competition, over 500 students and apprentices from across Canada competed for the title of national champion in over 40 Skill Areas. All competitors were evaluated against industry standards.

Subject to regulatory approval, Sonepar is acquiring independent electrical distributor Robertson Electric Wholesale based in Vaughan, Ont. “Our company was built on a customer-centric model, which will be strengthened with the knowledge and expertise Sonepar can provide to ensure our continued success,” said Rick Campbell, president, Robertson.

Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation has issued a Request for Bids to build and operate electric vehicle charging stations in 15 underserved and remote areas across the province. The province is accepting applications to build and operate publicly accessible charging stations on government-owned property, including highway rest areas, carpool parking lots, and tourist destinations.

Sometimes the best career path is the one that comes upon you serendipitously, without any great plan or strategy. Such was the case with Shelley Parker, who currently serves as vice-president, Metering, at Alectra Utilities Corp. “I was 18, in Grade 13… my last year of high school in rural Bruce County,” Shelley remembers. “I applied at Bruce Power, as they were known to hire students who could lead facility tours or perform odd jobs.” But things did not go as planned.

Like a tree, Virginia’s career path in Electrical involved many branches. Numerous achievements led to setting new goals until, eventually, she landed in her role as Acting Chief Electrical Inspector with the Government of Nunavut, Dept. of Community & Government Services. While in high school, she had thought about a career as an electrician—to which her guidance counsellor promptly said: “You’re too smart for that. Go to university”.
