BC’s building permits plummet after a record-high April, dragging down the national average

The total value of building permits across Canada in May was $11.7 billion, down 12.2% from a record high of $13.4 billion in April, reports Statistics Canada. British Columbia led the national decline in May with a significant drop of 50.7% after experiencing a record high for the total value of building permits issued in April. Excluding British Columbia, the total value of building permits for the remaining provinces and the territories edged down 0.7% in May.


Historic partnership emerges between four prominent U.S. electrical associations

South of the border, several prominent electrical industry associations—NECA, NEMA, NAED, NEMRA—signed a joint memorandum of understanding “that recognizes the necessity of a collaborative approach to address the challenges and opportunities of their respective but interconnected industries”.

RECALL: Over 700,000 Best Lighting fixtures due to fire hazard

In a joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. CPSC, Best Lighting Products is recalling high-bay LED light fixtures due to fire hazard. At issue: Plastic pins securing the LED board can degrade, allowing the energized board to come loose and contact the lens or combustible materials, posing a fire hazard. As of July 3, 2024, the company has received no reports of fire or injury in Canada.
