Southwire to shutter facilities in Santa Fe Springs, Rancho Cucamonga and Livermore

Southwire announced it will close its facilities in Santa Fe Springs, Rancho Cucamonga, and Livermore, Calif., as it “continues to align itself to best serve its markets and customers”. “The decision to close these facilities, as well as to adjust our staffing in EP&ES, was not made lightly, and it is not a reflection of our team members,” said Peter Lugo, senior vice-president, EP&ES. “We would like to thank these team members for their years of service, and we will ensure that those impacted by this decision are treated with dignity and respect throughout the transition.”


Funding opportunity returns! GICB program opening new intake for retrofits and new builds

Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, announced the dates for a new intake of applications through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. To be eligible for funding consideration, all retrofit projects are encouraged to achieve at least 25% in energy efficiency improvements compared to the building’s baseline; projects with greater improvements will receive a higher score and are more likely to be selected for funding.

Ontario boasts “the largest battery storage procurement in Canada’s history”

Ontario’s Ministry of Energy reports the province and the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) have concluded “the largest battery storage procurement in Canada’s history”, securing a total of 2195 MW of capacity. This capacity includes 1784 MW of energy storage from 10 projects, ranging in size from 9 MW to 390 MW.
