Month over month, investment in building construction edged up 0.8% to $20.8 billion in May, reports Statistics Canada, rebounding from a 2.0% decrease in April. Both non-residential (+0.6% to $6.4 billion) and residential (+0.9% to $14.4 billion) sectors rose slightly in May. Investment in non-residential construction rose slightly in May, increasing 0.6% to $6.4 billion.

Natural Resources Canada released the Canada Green Buildings Strategy (CGBS), saying it will drive energy efficiency improvements in Canadians’ homes and buildings, with a focus on addressing affordability and reducing GHG emissions. The strategy aims to: accelerate retrofits of existing buildings; ensure buildings are built to be energy-efficient, climate-resilient, and affordable; seize economic opportunities.

AD associates from across North America gathered in June for a Giving Back event in support of Case for Smiles. The volunteer organization was founded in 2007 to bring comfort and support to young patients and their families, initially through “whimsical pillowcases that give children an emotional boost, and remind them that they are not defined by their illness”. 35 volunteers from Case for Smiles came to AD headquarters in Wayne, Pa., to facilitate the Giving Back event.

The Ontario government is spending up to an additional $260 million through the Skills Development Fund Training Stream (making it the largest round of funding since the SDF Training Stream was launched), and is available to employers, employment service, training providers, labour unions, community organizations, business and industry organizations, and more.

The goal behind a recent “Tools for Success” event was to spark interest in a career as an electrician for Indigenous youth and young women. Organized by Skills Ontario with partners Sault College and Tenaris, the first event drew Indigenous youth to Tenaris to learn about the electrician trade by participating in a hands-on workshop led by Jon Pasiak, coordinator, Electrical Programs at Sault College.
