The total value of building permits in Canada fell 13.9% to $9.9 billion in June, extending the decline observed in May, reports Statistics Canada. Decreases were reported in 11 of the 13 provinces and territories, with both residential and non-residential sectors experiencing reductions. The total value of residential permits decreased 11.5% to $6.5 billion in June.

Prysmian reports it has won its trade secrets case against competitor Sterlite Technologies Inc. and Stephen S., a former executive, and was awarded $96,500,000 in damages. Following a three-week trial, the jury found that Sterlite was unjustly enriched by taking Prysmian’s trade secrets. Additionally, the jury found that Stephen S. had been unjustly enriched by misappropriating Prysmian’s trade secrets.

IBEW Local 105 in Hamilton, Ont., is receiving nearly $2.4 million from the province for two training projects. “Through the continued support of the Ontario government and the Skills Development Fund, [IBEW] Local 105 can successfully enhance our members skill sets, recruit individuals from diverse backgrounds, sustain ongoing education and meet the ever-evolving demands of the skilled trades,” said James Bonnell, business manager.
