Following two consecutive monthly declines, the total value of building permits rebounded with gusto in July 2024, with gains seen in both residential and non-residential sectors. The total monthly value of residential permits increased 16.7% to $7.6 billion, while non-residential sector permits rose 31.8% to $4.8 billion.

Bartle & Gibson, a western Canadian electrical, plumbing, and heating distributor, is celebrating its 80th anniversary. In 1944, Charlie Bartle of Victoria and Cecil Gibson of Vancouver each started a store in their respective city, and Bartle & Gibson opened its doors for the first time. 1951 marked the company’s first expansion, with a branch opening in Edmonton.

Distribution Solutions Group Inc.’s operating company Lawson Products—under its affiliate Lawson Products Canada Inc.—is acquiring Source Atlantic Ltd. from Ocean Capital Holdings. Ocean says it was approached last last year by Lawson Canada on behalf of DSG, with the desire to acquire Source Atlantic as a platform company for its Canadian operations for continued growth across the country.
