The Evolv1 building in the University of Waterloo Research & Technology Park in Ontario has become electrically self-sufficient following the installation of a DC-optimized rooftop and carport solar PV system. Over a 3-year period, the system offset 105% of the facility’s annual energy use and saved about $360,000 in energy costs.

Following a 0.2% increase in August, investment in building construction in Canada rose 2.1% to $21.6 billion in September 2024, Statistics Canada reports. The non-residential sector (industrial, commercial, institutional) edged up 0.3% to $6.4 billion, while the residential sector increased 2.9% to $15.2 billion.

Eaton Canada is investing about $15 million to expand its low-voltage manufacturing footprint by 20%, thereby increasing its ability to produce switchboards, switchgear, and panelboards. “Reliable and efficient power distribution is critical to support the electrification of our country’s industrial, transport, and infrastructure projects,” said Eaton’s Chris Fluit.
