Ottawa electrician fined over $32,000 for unpermitted pool installations, unlicensed business

An Ottawa electrician pleaded guilty to several offences under the Electricity Act and was ordered to pay a fine plus a victim surcharge, and was placed on a two-year probation. An Electrical Safety Authority investigation uncovered that the electrician and his company were conducting unlicensed and unpermitted electrical work associated with inground pool installations at three different properties.


WARNING: Honglou 4-pack duplex electrical outlet with LED night lights

Health Canada has determined the Honglou 4PACK duplex electrical outlet wall plate with LED night lights “likely poses a danger to human health or safety, and poses an unreasonable risk of electrical shock and fire”. The product was sold as a 4-pack of snap-on outlet cover plates that resembles a regular wall plate but doubles as a night light.

RECALL: Over 700,000 Best Lighting LEDFHB fixtures due to fire hazard

In a joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. CPSC, Best Lighting Products is recalling high-bay LED light fixtures due to fire hazard. At issue: Plastic pins securing the LED board can degrade, allowing the energized board to come loose and contact the lens or combustible materials, posing a fire hazard. RECALL – Good Earth rechargeable light bars due to fire and burn hazards

Good Earth Lighting is voluntarily recalling 12-in. rechargeable LED motion-activated light bars because the battery can overheat and ignite the light’s plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. As of May 17, 2024, the company received one report of an incident in Canada, but no injuries. In the United States, the company has received nine reports of incidents, including seven reports of fires, one report of property damage, and one report of a fatality. » Read more
