BC Hydro has selected nine wind energy projects from its 2024 call for power to serve British Columbia’s community and housing needs. Interestingly, the province intends to exempt these wind projects—and all future windpower projects—from environmental assessment to ensure they are “completed as efficiently as possible”, says the Ministry of Energy and Climate Solutions, “while ensuring First Nations interests and environmental mitigations are protected and maintained”.

Following a strong September, the total value of building permits issued in Canada decreased by $399.1 million (-3.1%) to $12.6 billion in October 2024, reports Statistics Canada. After fuelling gains in both residential and non-residential sectors in September, Ontario’s construction intentions in October—down $696.4 million—significantly contributed to the national non-residential decline, tempering total residential growth.

Michael O’Neil noted the distributorship is celebrating its 60th this year and that, right at that moment, there were four generations of O’Neils under the same roof.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) and Elemental Energy have reached financial close on a $118-million loan to support the development of the Higgins Mountain wind farm, located within the municipalities of Colchester and Cumberland in Nova Scotia. A partnership between Elemental and Stevens Wind and Sipekne’katik First Nation, the project’s 17 wind turbines will have the capacity to generate up to 100 megawatts.
