The Ontario government and Wataynikaneyap Power are celebrating the completion of construction of the Watay Power Transmission Project—the largest Indigenous-led grid connection project in the province’s history. The project involved the construction of approximately 1800 kilometres of new transmission lines to connect more than 18,000 people in 16 remote First Nations communities to the provincial grid, ending their reliance on diesel generators.

Winning the award involved achieving the largest sales increase across all 48 Lumen branches. A brand of Sonepar Canada, Lumen is a distributor of electrical and automation solutions in Quebec. Territory managers Ulysse Ramsay and Francois Raymond accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Statistics Canada released its building permit values summary for December 2024, which shows an overall increase of 11.0% to $13.1 billion, thanks in large part to a 21.2% increase in the residential sector The total value of residential permits increased by $1.6 billion to $9.0 billion; unfortunately, non-residential permits fell 5.9% (-$262.2 million) to $4.2 billion, marking the third monthly decrease in a row.

Independent power producer Capstone Infrastructure Corp. announced the execution of three 30-year Electricity Purchase Agreements for three wind projects—Brewster, Highland Valley, Mount Mabel—which were selected by BC Hydro in its Call for Power. The projects will have a total combined capacity of 537 MW, and are expected to generate about 1.4 million MWh of electricity annually.
