Electro-Federation Canada—a national association representing companies that manufacture, distribute, sell, and maintain a range of electrical products in Canada—surveyed its members to better understand the potential impact of the proposed US tariffs on Canadian goods and business operations. Respondents expressed concern over increased costs, supply chain challenges, and diminished competitiveness of Canadian electrical exports. Many anticipate significant price adjustments and supplier realignments, with some even considering relocating capacity to the U.S.

Electro-Federation Canada’s 2025 Scholarship Program has launched, with over $160,000 available to university and college students across dozens of scholarships. The program is supported by numerous EFC members—companies that manufacture, distribute, market, and sell a range of electrical products. “With the increasing demand for electrification around the world, there has been significant and ongoing investment in critical infrastructure. This has positioned our industry to be more relevant politically and economically than ever before,” says Catherine McKeown, EFC Scholarship Committee chair.

The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia hailed the coming into force of legislation that, for the first time, enables the development of offshore renewable energy in Canada. “With our legislation in place, we’re gearing up for our first licence call this year, and we plan to offer licences for five gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030,” said Nova Scotia Minister of Energy Trevor Boudreau.

In partnership with Mack Trucks Inc., Terex Utilities unveiled its latest zero-emissions bucket truck for the electric utility industry. Preliminary testing shows the vehicle has up to 1.5x enhanced range capabilities compared to other Class 6/7 medium-duty electric chassis bucket trucks, says Terex, with double the payload capacity on the rear axle.
