The Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) announced that Canada’s wind, solar, and energy storage sectors have grown by 46% in the last five years, with an installed capacity of more than 24 GW at the end of 2024. CanREA released these statistics in a report marking its fifth anniversary. (On July 1, 2020, the Canadian Wind Energy Association [CanWEA] and the Canadian Solar Industries Association [CanSIA] officially merged to form a multi-technology association focused on wind, solar, and energy storage.)

The latest Canadian Electrical Code-Part I edition contains a requirement for equipotential bonding around the edges of pools. While this “job” is typically carried out by the reinforcing steel, pool installations that don’t contain any rebar do not have anything to carry out this important work. The 2024 code addresses this shortfall with a few new requirements and some new terms, explains David Pilon, manager of electrical inspections at Technical Safety Authority Saskatchewan (TSASK).

After meeting to discuss US tariffs, Canadian federal, provincial, and territorial energy and mines ministers issued a joint statement in which they claim they will “take decisive action to ensure Canadian companies remain competitive and succeed in the global market, including the acceleration of resource development through more efficient and timely permitting and regulatory processes”.

The Maritime Sikh Society in Halifax is pleased that its application to the federal Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program was accepted. “This is a grant that will allow the installation of solar panels on the 10 Parkhill Road site, resulting in net zero electricity costs [...] for the next 25 to 35 years,” writes the organization.
