The Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) has opened the Call for Nominations for the Darryl Cruickshank Red Seal Industry Award and the CCDA Award for Excellence in Apprenticeship Education. CCDA is responsible for Canada’s Red Seal Program, in which all provinces and territories plus the federal government participate as members. This year, CCDA will accept nominations from both education and industry, according to Barbara LaPointe, director of Skilled Trades NB and CCDA chair.

Energy efficiency and demand flexibility solutions provider Edo earned top honours at the Grid Innovation Pitch Competition, held during GridFWD 2024 in Banff, Alta. The Province of British Columbia has adopted the 2024 edition of the Canadian Electrical Code-Part I (C22.1 “Safety standard for electrical installations”). Effective March 4, 2025, all electrical work subject to the BC Electrical Code must comply with the 2024 edition—no exceptions. Technical Safety BC explains that all work performed under installation permits issued prior to March 4 must comply with the 2021 edition until the work is completed (i.e. even if the work is completed after March 4, 2025).

When we think about Area Classification, our minds automatically turn to thoughts of massive oil & gas facilities, maybe a mining operation, etc. But hazardous locations are more prevalent than you may think... just consider the last time you filled up at a gas station!
Because it is so essential, hazardous area classification is rarely overlooked in something like a modern petrochemical facility. But the picture is quite different when we get into some smaller industrial operations where, because a hazardous location may constitute such a small portion of the overall process, area classification is regularly overlooked.
“We are obligated by code (and, therefore, by law) to provide a classification design for facilities that contain any of these hazards. When we fail to do so, the results can be catastrophic,” writes Allan Bozek, P.Eng.

Quebec-based electric vehicle manufacturer Lion Electric Co. is facing a class-action lawsuit from shareholders who allege the company misled investors and misrepresented its financial health, leading to artificially inflated stock prices. “Damages suffered by the members of the proposed group are the direct and immediate result of the false and misleading representations [...]” reads the court filing dated February 21.
