Investment in building construction rose 1.5% (+$331.7 million) to $22.4 billion in February 2025, reports Statistics Canada, with gains being recorded across all components. Investment in multi-unit construction rose $241.5 million to $8.4 billion in February, largely attributable to gains in Ontario (+$357.8 million) and British Columbia (+$53.1 million). Meanwhile, Alberta (-$62.7 million) and Nova Scotia (-$41.5 million) led the declines.

NVent Electric plc will acquire the enclosures, switchgear, and bus systems businesses of Avail Infrastructure Solutions (a.k.a. “Electrical Products Group”) for a purchase price of $975 million, subject to customary adjustments. The Electrical Products Group business has about 1,100 employees and nine manufacturing locations in the United States.

Following expressions of interest from the host community, the Ontario government has asked Ontario Power Generation to explore opportunities for new nuclear energy generation at its Wesleyville site, about an hour’s drive east of Toronto.
“This is a generational opportunity,” said Minister of Energy & Electrification Stephen Lecce, “grounded in partnership with the Municipality of Port Hope and the Williams Treaty First Nations”.
Based on early assessments by OPG, the site could potentially host up to 10,000 megawatts of new nuclear generation, powering the equivalent of 10 million homes.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank is providing $224.2 million in loans to help Nova Scotia’s Port Hawkesbury Paper Wind Ltd. build a large-scale wind energy project, and help 13 Mi’kmaw First Nations buy a 10% stake in the project. The energy project aims to support Nova Scotia’s largest industrial user of electricity—namely, Port Hawkesbury Paper—as well as the provincial grid.
